Iyer and Ashwin guide India to series sweep over Bangladesh
Sports

An unbroken 74-run eighth-wicket partnership between Shreyash Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin saw India to a three-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second Test in Dhaka on Sunday, leading the visitors to a 2-0 series win.

Ashwin scored the winning runs, a boundary to cap off 10 runs in the over from Mehedi Hasan Miraz as India chased down 145 runs with three wickets in hand.

The partnership revived India's chances after they had lost three wickets -- those of Jaydev Unadkat, Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel -- for 26 runs in the first hour of play on Day 4 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Miraz struck twice and Shakib once as Bangladesh senses a first-ever victory over their neighbours. But Ashwin, who had a reprieve very early in his innings when put down by Mominul Haque off Miraz -- took the attack to the bowlers, scoring unbeaten 42 off 64 deliveries including four fours and a six.

Iyer was not out on 29 off 46 deliveries.

Miraz took five wicket for 63 runs -- his ninth five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
