The International Diabetic Federation (IDF) has made Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the "Global Ambassador for Diabetes".
On behalf of the Prime Minister, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Portugal Tarik Ahsan received the honorary letter from the newly elected President of the IDF Prof Akhter Hossain at the inaugural session of the World Diabetic Conference-2022 held at Lisbon, capital of Portugal on December 5, said a press release from the Prime Minister's press wing.
The honorary "Global Ambassador for Diabetes" was conferred on a person in recognition to his or her significant contribution to upgrade the life standard of the people living with diabetes.
The Prime Minister will discharge the duty of “Global Ambassador for Diabetes" for the next two years as the representative of the diabetic patients for their wellbeing.
Sheikh Hasina had earlier received various international prizes including MDG Award, South-South Award, Vaccine Hero Award for her glorious contribution to reach healthcare service to people's doorsteps with setting up community clinics across the country, ensuring access to the Covid-19 vaccines of masses free of cost and for overall development of Bangladesh health sector.
Bangladesh is currently providing insulin free of cost to the poor diabetic patients through 18,000 community clinics across the country at the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
