Indian couple killed as truck smashes car in Satkhira

An Indian national and his wife were killed after a truck smashed their private car on the Satkhira-Khulna road on Saturday morning.

The accident happened at about 8am in front of the main gate of the Satkhira 33 BGB Camp.

Satkhira Katia police outpost inspector Uttam Mitra said it was known from their passports that deceased Ashim Kumar Bishwas, 60, and his wife Chhabi Bishwas, 89, were the Indian nationals. Ashim was an engineer and involved in the construction work of Khulna-Mongla rail line.

The couple met the tragic end of their lives while going to India.

The bodies were kept at Satkhira sadar Hospital morgue.

Eyewitness said they saw a private car was coming to Satkhira from Khulna. Suddenly, a Khulna-bound truck hit the car in front of the main gate of the Satkhira 33 BGB Camp, leaving the couple inside the car dead on the spot and driver injured.

Driver Rafiqul is undergoing treatment at the Sadr Hospital.
