Openers Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto provided Bangladesh the best possible start, putting on 68 as the Tigers were set 151 to win off 16 overs against India in their rain-interrupted Super 12 clash at the Twenty20 World Cup in Adelaide Wednesday.

Liton dominated the opening partnership, hammering his way to a 27-ball 60, studded with seven fours and three sixes; the eighth time the elegant right-hander has scored a T20I fifty.

Liton though was cruelly caught short of the ground while completing a second run after a KL Rahul direct hit from deep midwicket.

Shanto followed soon after for a 25-ball 21.

By the end of the 11th over, the Tigers had moved on to 99/2 with captain Shakib al Hasan and Afif Hossain not out on 13 and three respectively.

Rain had intervened when Bangladesh were batting on 66/0 in seven overs, and from there they required 85 more runs to win from nine remaining overs.

India earlier posted 184/6, riding on fifties from the in-form Virat Kohli (64 not out off 44) and opener KL Rahul, who reached his first double digit score in this tournament before perishing for a 32-ball 50.

No 4 batter Suryakumar Yadav (30 off 16) was the only other Indian batter to reach double figure before being castled by Shakib.

Right-arm quick Taskin Ahmed was once again the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers with figure of 0/15 from his quota of four overs, including as many as 16 dot deliveries.

Fellow right-arm seamer Hasan Mahmud continued his good run of form at the T20 World Cup by taking three wickets, but was expensive giving away 47 runs from his four overs.

Shakib ended up with 2/33 from his four overs, while left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman (0/31) conceded less than eight an over in a high-scoring game.

Opening batter Soumya Sarkar's replacement in the playing XI, left-arm pace bowler Shoriful Islam leaked 57 runs without success in his four overs.

Skipper Shakib earlier won the toss and elected to field first.

"Don't know what the best score is on this pitch," said Shakib.

The Tigers are bidding to beat India for the first time in the T20 World Cup after losing all three meetings previously in 2009, 2014 and lastly, the one-run heartache two years later.
