HC orders to expel five BCL leader, activists involved in torture at IU

The High Court has ordered the authorities of Islamic University in Kushtia to expel five leader and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League those who were involved over the torture of a fresher on the campus.

At the same time, court also directed to remove Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Hall provost Shamsul Alam.

A bench of justice JBM Hasan and justice Raziq Al Jalil issued the directives on Wednesday.

The five students are Chhatra League leader Shanjida Chowdhury Ontora Ontora and her supporters Tabassum, Maobiya, Halima Khatun and Ishrat Jahan.

The court also directed the five students not to enter into the university campus and take part in any academic activities.

On the night of February 12, a group of BCL activists led by its IU unit vice-president Shanjida Chowdhury Ontora and her cohorts, including Tabassum, tortured and forced the victim to undress while videotaping the incident on their mobile phones. She threatened to spread the video on social media if the victim disclosed the matter to anyone.

The victim lodged a written complaint with the university administration, including the university proctor, student adviser and the hall provost, demanding punishment of those involved in the incident on February 14.
