A court in Dhaka on Sunday framed charges against eight BNP leaders and activists, including the party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in a case filed over torching a Dhaka South City Corporation 's garbage truck in the city's Paltan area.
Other seven accused in the case are the party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Jamaat-e-Islami South City Secretary General Shafiqul Islam, former Jubo Dal president Saiful Alam Nirob, BNP Information and Research Secretary Azizul Bari Helal, BNP activists Moazzem Hossain Babu, Kazi Rezaul Haque Babu and Khandaker Enamul Haque Enam.
Earlier this morning, all the accused, including Mirza Fakhrul, appeared in the court for the hearing and pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, the state lawyers were in the court for charge framing.
After hearing, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzel Hossain passed the order of charge frame dismissing petitions submitted for discharging them from the charges of the case.
The court fixed September 20 for starting trial of the case.
According to the case statement, a group of BNP leaders and activists led by Fakhrul and Rizvi blocked Paltan's Bijoynagar area on December 9, 2012, and torched a garbage truck there.
Later, a case was filed against Fakhrul, Rizvi and 20 others with Paltan Model Police Station in this regard.
