The government has decided to buy 1.10 crore litres of soyabean oil and 8,000 tonnes of red lentil for the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). It will cost Tk 274.17 crore.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) has approved procuring the oil and lentil.
A meeting of the CCGP was held virtually on Thursday (January 19) with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Following the meeting, Cabinet Division's additional secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan briefed reporters about the meeting's decisions.
He said approval was given to procure 8,000 tonnes of red lentil through international open bidding by the TCB. The lentil will be bought from ETC Agro Processing Private Limited of India (Local agent in Dhaka: Export Trading BD Limited) spending Tk 73.97 crore.
In another decision, approval was given to buy 1.10 crore litres of soyabean oil from local companies through direct purchase method. The oil will be purchased from Shun Shin Edible Oils Limited at Tk 200.20 crore. The previous rate was Tk 184.50 a litre. However, the approval was given to procure the oil at Tk 182 per litre.
