Govt gives Tk 5,200cr subsidies to provide essentials thru' TCB

Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will continue to sell essentials at fair prices until the prices of goods fall in the market, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said.

He was speaking at a function at Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday (January 10) afternoon which was organised for launching of the selling programme of the state-owned TCB products for the month of January 2023 among some one crore TCB family cardholders belonging to low-income group.

Commerce Ministry secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh and TCB chairman Brigadier General Md Ariful Hasan, were present, among others, on the occasion.

The Commerce Minister said the government has provided subsidies worth Tk 5,200 crore for providing essentials to low income group of people at fair prices in one year.

Tipu Munshi said initiatives have been taken to digitalise the TCB family cards so that one family cannot take more than one card.

Apart from grams, he said the TCB will  sell dates during the upcoming Ramadan.

The TCB will sell bottled soyabean oil at Tk 110 per litre, lentil at Tk 70 per litre and sugar at Tk 60 per kilogram  among the family card holder consumers this month.

Each TCB family card holder can buy 2 litres of soya bean oil, 2 kilograms of red lentil and 1 kilogram of sugar under a package of Tk 420 only.

Such month-long operation is being conducted through some 300 dealers in the capital and also some 3,500 dealers across the country.
