A man named Shah Alam (35) was arrested along with 124 pieces of gold bars from Jashore border while smuggling those to India.
He was arrested on Friday (May 20) morning in the Kabilpur crematorium area inside the Shahjadpur BOP in Chaugachha.
It is learned that Shah Alam is a resident of Kabilpur village in Chaugachha.
At a press conference on Friday afternoon, 49 BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel Shahed Minhaj said the smuggler was riding a motorcycle in the guise of a farmer. He was searched on suspicion and 124 gold bars were recovered in a specially hidden condition.
Primary interrogation revealed that he had smuggled gold six times before. The estimated market value of the gold bars weighing 14.45 kg is Tk10 crore 11 lakh and 50 thousand.
A motorcycle and a mobile phone were also seized.
