Former Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar passed away at a hospital in the capital on Wednesday. He was 80.

Mahbub Talukdar, a renowned poet, juvenile writer and former civil servant, breathed his last at around 1:00pm at United Hospital while undergoing treatment.

He served as the Election Commissioner of Bangladesh from 2017 to 2022.

The valiant freedom fighter was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2012 for his contribution in juvenile literature.

 Mahbub Talukdar joined the exiled government in 1971.
