The recent floods have caused losses amounting to Tk 771,502,240 in the livestock sector across five districts of the Chattogram Division. The highest losses were recorded in Chattogram District, where the damage totaled Tk 600,681,140.

According to the latest report from the Chattogram Divisional Department of Livestock Services, 161,394 livestock animals and poultry have died, while 3,333,642 livestock animals and 10,991 farms have been affected by the floods.

The report states that the damage occurred in 191 unions across 45 upazilas in the districts of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachhari.

District-wise, the estimated losses are as follows:

Cox's Bazar: Tk 135,391,110

Rangamati: Tk 29,982,000

Khagrachhari: Tk 3,701,000

Bandarban: Tk 1,747,000

Of the 10,991 affected farms, 4,756 livestock farms suffered losses worth Tk 175,572,000, while 6,235 poultry farms incurred damages amounting to Tk 197,296,500.

In addition, losses include:

910 metric tons of concentrated animal feed, valued at Tk 51,792,000

14,265 metric tons of straw, worth Tk 215,685,000

9,129 metric tons of grass, valued at Tk 82,614,000

The financial loss resulting from the deaths of livestock and poultry has been estimated at Tk 48,542,740.

In Chattogram District alone, 4,218 livestock farms in 108 unions across 15 upazilas suffered losses worth Tk 126,540,000, while 5,674 poultry farms incurred damages totaling Tk 170,220,000.

Furthermore, the district lost:

162 metric tons of animal feed, valued at Tk 9,220,000

6,960 metric tons of grass, worth Tk 69,600,000

Floodwaters also inundated grazing land, including:

1,001 acres in Chattogram

7,840 acres in Cox's Bazar

510 acres in Bandarban

1,129 acres in Rangamati

As a result, 71 cattle, 165 goats, 50 sheep, 158,600 chickens, and 2,508 ducks died. Of these, Chattogram alone accounted for the deaths of 39 cattle, 95 goats,42 sheep, 142,137 chickens, and 1,300 ducks.

The floods also left 223,390 cattle, 4,755 buffaloes, 160,087 sheep, 2,845,828 chickens, and 70,370 ducks sick across the five affected districts.

So far, veterinary services have provided treatment to 11,897 animals and 84,650 poultry birds. In addition, 10,689 animals and 19,027 poultry birds have been vaccinated. The floods also damaged eight livestock offices, including three in Chattogram, one in Cox's Bazar, and four in Bandarban.

Dr. Muhammad Izmal Hasan, Deputy Director (Veterinary Public Health) of the Chattogram Divisional Department of Livestock Services, said that, based on preliminary field reports, the estimated losses currently stand at Tk 771.5 million. He added that the data collection process is still ongoing, and the final figures may change.
