The High Court has stayed the effectivity of Dhaka University's Bangla department's notice that asked the female students to keep their faces uncovered during examinations and presentations.
The court stayed the notice for six months
The HC also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks why the department's notice should not be declared illegal.
An HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Qader and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order on Tuesday.
As per the court order, no female students can be forced to uncover their faces, said lawyer Md Fayzullah Foyez, stood on behalf of the petitioner.
On December 11 last year, the Bangla Department issued a notice, signed by its chairman professor Syed Azizul Haque, asking the female students to keep their faces and ears uncovered during all examinations, including viva and presentations.
Later on February 19, three students of the department filed a writ challenging the legality of the decision.
