Court of law

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has ordered telecom operators Grameenphone, Robi and Banglalink to pay Tk2,355 crore to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in spectrum fees and license fees.

Grameenphone will have to pay Tk1,165 crore, Robi Tk625 crore and Banglalink Tk565 crore.

The Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order on Tuesday (10 January) after hearing separate appeals filed by the BTRC for collecting the fees and the telecom operator companies stating the fees are too high, BTRC'S Lawyer Barrister Khandaker Reza-E-Raquib said.

"We do not yet know by when the fees have to be paid. We will know the details after receiving the copy of the order. All we can say for now is that the payment should be made soon," Barrister Khandaker Reza-E-Raquib added.
