Former Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayor Mohammad Jahangir Alam secured eight weeks anticipatory bail in a defamation case filed in Faridpur.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Rezaul Hasan and Justice Md Atabullah passed the bail order.
Senior lawyer and former attorney general MK Rahman stood in the court on behalf of Jahangir Alam while deputy attorney general Imran Ahmed represented the state.

Ataur Rahman, organising secretary of 'Manobik Bangladesh Society' filed the case. So far, eight cases have been filed against the former Gazipur mayor in different districts for his derogatory comments about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyred freedom fighters.
Jahangir Alam was suspended from the post of Gazipur City Corporation mayor in November 25 last, days after he lost membership of the Awami League over allegations of making derogatory comments about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyred freedom fighters.
