A Dhaka tribunal today sent former Awami League lawmaker from Pabna-2 Khandokar Azizul Haque Arzu to jail after rejecting his bail in a rape case.
Judge Begum Shamsunnahar of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka passed the order after the lawmaker surrendered before it, seeking bail in the case.
On January 16, the same tribunal issued an arrest warrant against the accused after accepting the probe report of the case.
The judge also directed the officer-in-charge of Adabor Police Station to submit a report on implementation of the arrest warrant by today.
On January 5, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted the report before the tribunal after investigating into the case.
An apprentice female lawyer filed the case with the tribunal On April 19 last year, bringing allegations of rape against the former MP.
Then, the tribunal recorded the complainant's statements and directed the PBI to submit a report before it after investigating the case.
