Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that resistance against the BNP is crucial for ensuring the preservation of Bangladesh's liberation war legacy, safeguarding democracy, and upholding the principles of non-sectarian mentality.
Quader expressed his views and emphasised the importance of countering BNP, what he referred to as the "evil force", on Tuesday following a solemn commemoration event at the Banani graveyard on the 94th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib.
Addressing Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib as one of the most remarkable women in Bangladesh's history, he said, "From Sheikh Mujib to Bangabandhu, from Bangabandhu to the Father of the Nation – Begum Mujib was not only Bangabandhu's wife, she was also a dedicated partner in all the struggles."
Quader stated "Politics of murder and conspiracy started in the country since the brutal assassinations of Bangabandhu on 15 August and four national leaders on 3 November in 1975. The grenade attack on 21 August 2004, primarily targeting Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina, was a continuation of that."
"Twenty-three lives were lost, including Ivy Rahman, in that grenade attack. BNP was behind this history of bloodbaths. This party initiated the politics of murder and conspiracy in Bangladesh," he added.
Quader, at the time, held BNP accountable for its consistent presence as a political party behind these events, contributing to a history of orchestrating violence, murder, and conspiracy in Bangladesh.
