BNP
Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday alleged that the
Election Commission is selecting candidates according to the Awami League's
prescription.
"The commission is also deciding
which candidate will run in each constituency. It is cancelling the approval of
others, keeping those deemed necessary," Rizvi said following a procession
in the Uttara area this morning in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal
organised the event on the second day of BNP’s ongoing 48-hour blockade
demanding government resignation.
Describing the election setup as a
"mockery," Rizvi remarked, "Cease this mockery with the nation.
Step down as soon as possible. Otherwise, the public will not forgive
you."
He alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina is destroying the country through “pre-meditated one-sided polls.”
"Sheikh Hasina is destroying the
country in the name of a one-sided election. Whether the country is in ruins or
not, Sheikh Hasina remains careless. Today, all productive sectors of the
country are under severe threat. Import and export activities are nearly
halted," Rizvi said.
He also highlighted that people are
struggling to cope with the price hike of daily commodities.
Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal participated in the event among others.
