Elections cannot be prevented by terrorism: Election Commissioner Alamgir
Bangladesh

Narayanganj Correspondent:

Election Commissioner Mohammad Alamgir said that two acts of terrorism, including setting fire to railway carriages, cannot prevent the election of the whole country. He said, several lakhs of people are engaged in election work. Such a big election cannot be rigged by two terrorist activities.

He said that arrangements are being made to send ballot papers to all centers on the morning of the election day so that free and fair elections can be held. Ballots will be sent to remote areas with the help of local administration. He said that we are making arrangements to send ballot papers on the day of election so that a free and fair and impartial election can be held. He said these things in response to the questions of the journalists after exchanging views with the law and order forces of the district at the office of Narayanganj District Returning Officer on Tuesday afternoon.

The Election Commissioner said, since the present Election Commission took charge, in the few places where the ballot has been voted, we have conducted elections in this way. No one will be able to tell that the vote was taken the night before. We will send the ballots to the center in the morning so that there is no chance of such slander. But in remote areas we will talk to Returning Officers. Actions will be taken after getting an explanation as to why remote areas should be given ballots first.

Asked whether the influence of ministers and MPs would be a problem for other candidates, EC Alamgir said, "If there is a tiger somewhere and any animal smaller than that, it becomes imbalanced." There are police and magistrates. They will see this. The field is equal for all, the law is equal for all. No one should hinder anyone.

Regarding the submission of legal arms before the elections, he said that operations to recover illegal arms are being intensified. If someone's weapon is licensed for security, if it is taken away, it is the responsibility of the state to provide security to him. Now we will not give him security, we will give security to the election. Measures will be taken to ensure that no one can display weapons illegally even if they have a licensed weapon.

District Returning Officer Mahmudul Haque, District Superintendent of Police (SP) Golam Mostafa Russell, RAB 11 Captain (CO) Tanveer Mahmud Pasha along with District Election Commission, District Administration and representatives of various law enforcement agencies were present.
