The Election Commission (EC) is monitoring the Barisal and Khulna City Corporation polls on Monday through CCTV cameras at the Election Commission headquarters.
The balloting began at 8am in the morning in the two cities with around 800,000 voters combined, which will continue till 4 pm.
Election commissioners Ahsan Habib Khan, Rasheda Sultana and Md Alamgirw were supervising the election directly from the CCTV monitoring control room installed in the basement of the Election Commission headquarters in Dhaka's Agargaon.
EC Assistant Public Relations Director Ashadul Haque said that voting is going on in a peaceful atmosphere, no disturbance or any untoward incident has come to the attention of the commission.
In Khulna, a total of 2,320 CCTV cameras have been installed both inside and outside 1,732 polling booths.
In the KCC polls, five candidates are vying for the mayoral post. They are AL-backed Talukder Abdul Khaleque (boat), Jatiya Party's Shafiqul Islam Modhu (plough), Bangladesh Islami Andolon's Moulana Abdul Awal (hand Fan), Zaker Party's SM Sabbir Hossain (rose) and independent candidate Shafiqur Rahman Mushfiq (table clock).
Meanwhile, 1,200 CCTV cameras have been installed to ensure the security of the 894 polling booths in 126 voting centres in Barisal.
Seven candidates are vying for the mayoral post while 119 councillors for general post and 42 for reserved posts in the polls, with the ruling party backing a new candidate.
