Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has decided to increase the price of water by five percent from September 1. The sewerage charge will also increase at the same rate.
Under the existing system, if the water bill is Tk 100 then the consumer will have to pay a total of Tk 200, including Tk 100 sewerage bill. If the new decision is effective, the customer will have to pay a total of Tk 210 for water and sewerage bill.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the WASA Board held at Dhaka WASA Bhaban in Karwan Bazar on Thursday afternoon.
Dhaka WASA Board Chairman Engineer Golam Mostafa said a proposal to increase the price of water by 20 per cent was raised at the board meeting. However, the board has decided to increase it by 5 percent.
At present, the price of 1,000 liters of water for residential customers is Tk15.18. In case of commercial connection, the price of 1,000 liters of water is currently Tk 42. An additional 5 percent will be added to this price from September.
