Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan has violated discipline making statement about Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, said Law Minister Anisul Huq.
"A process is going on to terminate from service," he said quoting the solicitor wing of the law ministry.
Anisul Huq made the remarks to newsmen after attending a discussion organised by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) on the proposed Cyber Security Act at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Tuesday.
He said Imran Ahmed Bhuiya holds the post of DAG (Deputy Attorney General) at the Office of Attorney General. He can't talk to journalists without the consent of the Attorney General. He is supposed to talk to journalists taking permission from the Attorney General, or express his opinion after resigning from his post. But he didn't do any of that."
Deputy AG Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan on Monday refused to sign a statement allegedly prepared by the attorney general's office in protest against the statement of world leaders in support of Dr Muhammad Yunus.
Talking to the mass media, DAG Imran said more than 160 world leaders issued a statement in an open letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina protesting that he was being harassed using the judiciary. The Office of the Attorney General is scheduled to issue a statement protesting the statement of world leaders. I think that Dr Yunus has been harassed using the judiciary. The Attorney General’s Office has decided to issue a statement. I have decided not to sign it," he said.
