A fire that broke out at 'Dhaka Plastic' polythene factory in old Dhaka's Chawkbazar area was doused after two hours of frantic efforts.
Due to the enthusiastic crowd, firemen faced trouble to douse the blaze.
Fire Service and Civil Defence duty officer Khaleda Yasmin said they took the fire under their control at about 2:20pm.
"The plastic factory and establishment around it are very risky," said Lt Col Zillur Rahman, director (operation) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, at a briefing after the fire doused. " The reason behind the blaze could not be known yet. We will form a probe committee soon to find out the reason."
Earlier the blaze broke out at the factory at 12 noon on Monday. It soon engulfed the adjacent restaurant.
The first and second floors of the building house a plastic factory while the third floor is the warehouse for plastic toys, the fire officials said.
Hearing the news, local people gathered there which caused troubles for the firemen to douse the fire. They requested the locals to free the place through loud speaker.
A total of 10 fire fighting units were working for over two hours to douse the blaze.
At first six units were rushed to the spot after getting information. Later, four more joined.
