The government is set to introduce a new law that includes the provision of the death penalty for Ansar members who would engage in rebellion or incite rebellion.

The draft of the Bangladesh Ansar Battalion Act for 2023 was approved during a Cabinet meeting on Monday, with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

At the end of the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain informed the media that the previous law lacked provisions for certain cases. The draft law now specifies punishment for causing disorder.
