Awami League general secretary and bridge minister
Obaidul Quader said that BNP is poison in the politics of this country. This
poison should be removed from politics. He said this during a public meeting at
Bamni Bazar in Companyganj, Noakhali on Saturday (December 23) noon. Obaidul
Quader said that BNP is the enemy of freedom and democracy. An opportunity has
come to resist them. Take advantage of this opportunity by voting in groups on
January 7. He said that not only should they vote themselves, mothers and
sisters staying at home should be brought to the center in groups. I am here to
make this request only. Before this, Obaidul Quader held mass meetings in
Companyganj's Basurhat, Shantirhat, Rangmala Bazar, Bangla Bazar and later
Peshkarhat, New Bazar and Tekerbazar in the surrounding areas. The minister
will address a street meeting at Kabirhat, another upazila of the constituency,
after lunch at his home in Bara Rajapur village of Ward No. 1, Basurhat Municipality, Companiganj, at 3:00 p.m.
Kabirhat Upazila Awami League General Secretary Municipal Mayor Zahirul Haque
Raihan confirmed the matter. Barrister Tanveer Ahmed (Plough), Jatiya Party
central member Barrister Tanveer Ahmed (Plow), Jasder Maqchuder Rahman Manik
(Torch), Islami Front's Mohammad Shamchuddoha (Chair) and Cultural Liberation
Alliance's Shakil Mahmud Chowdhury (Stick) are competing with Obaidul Quader in
Noakhali-5 seat. Obaidul Quader Noakhali-5 (Kompaniganj-Kabirhat) Constituency

elected as the first Member of Parliament from this constituency in 1996.

2008. Obaidul Quader's arch-rival in this seat was the late Barrister Maudud
Ahmad, a member of the BNP Standing Committee. He died on 16 March 2021. He was
the Vice President in the Jatiya Party government and Minister of Law, Justice
and Parliamentary Affairs in the BNP government in 2001.
