BNP would not be happy even if their secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is made the chief election commissioner, Awami League advisory council member Tofail Ahmed said on Tuesday.
He said, “Next general election will be held at the end of 2023. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir wants caretaker government. I don’t think he will ever be able to see the formation of caretaker government as the next election will be held according to the constitution under the current government.”
Tofail made the remarks while addressing triennial council Bhola Sramik League at Zila Parishad auditorium, Bhola.
Mentioning that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s development in the country is lauded in the world, the AL leader said, “Today we have graduated from a less developed country to a developing country. The Prime Minister promised that she will build Bangladesh a digital and middle income country. She has proved that.”
Chaired by the council convener Md Shah Alam, the programme was addressed, among others, by Sramik League general secretary KM Azam Khosru, Bhola-3 seat MP Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon, Bhola AL senior vice president Abdul Momin Tulu and general secretary Mainul Hossain Biplab.
In the second session of the conference, Md. Harun Howladar and Md. Faruque were elected as president and general secretary of Bhola Sramik League committee.
