Former state minister Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan has resigned from BNP after quitting parliament.

Sattar, a five time lawmaker, was BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser.

Sattar submitted his resignation letter to the BNP chief's office on Thursday night, his son Mainul Hasan Tushar told our Brahmanbaria correspondent this afternoon.

Tushar said, BNP is not giving his father much importance at present. Even he is not called to take any important decisions for the party. "It seems to us that he is no longer needed for the party's activities."

"As a result, we think it is better to spend his time with the family," he said.

Sattar was an elected lawmaker from Brahmanbaria and Cumilla as a BNP candidate for five times, including the 11th parliamentary election held in 2018.

Seven BNP lawmakers, including Sattar on December 10, announced their resignations from parliament at the party's Golapbagh rally in Dhaka. Later, they submitted their resignation letters to the Speaker.

The by-elections to the vacant seats will be held on February 1.
