A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants in South Africa late on Sunday.
The incident took place at around 1am in Bloemfontein, Free State province of the country.
The deceased has been identified as Manik Azam Shajal, 43, a resident of Feni's Daganbhuiyan upazila.
After receiving information, the law enforcers in South Africa recovered Shajal's body.
Quoting family, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daganbhuiyan police station Hasan Imam said that the deceased was living in South Africa for over 18 years and was the former general secretary of the Bangladeshi community of the area.
Meanwhile, quoting Shajal's younger brother Faisal Shajib, the OC said that Sajal had a conflict with a local shopkeeper, but the matter was settled by the people of the community.
Although it was agreed that Sajal would pay Tk5 lakh to the shopkeeper, he fell short by Tk10,000, added the OC.
Besides, Shajal's mother, Kohinur Begum alleged Sajal was killed by the shopkeeper for money.
