Ashiqul Haque Chowdhury (Pintu), press manager of The Asian Age, was found dead mysteriously in a flat in capital's Matuail area early hours on Friday.

A murder case was lodged with Kadamtoli Police Station and a woman was arrested in this connection.

The arrestee was identified as Safia Begum (27), daughter of Sulaiman and Kamala Begum, presently resides at Flat: 501, Holding: 26/15, Road: 2, Shamimbagh, Kadmatoli, Dhaka. She hails from Munshiganj's Gazaria.

It has been alleged that the accused Safia called Pintu to her flat on Friday night and poisoned him to death in collusion with other accomplices. Safia said that she had a love affair with Pintu.

On information, police from Kadamtoli thana rushed to the flat on Medical Road in Matuail area and recovered Pintu's body.

Later, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue and autopsy was conducted in the afternoon. Pintu's body was buried in his family graveyard in Brahmanbaria's Nabinagar.

Proloy Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Kadamtoli Police Station, said, "Police recovered the body from a flat and sent to morgue for autopsy. A murder case has been filed and a woman has been arrested in this connection."

"The exact cause of death can be ascertained after getting the post-mortem report," the OC added.
