An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police has been arrested for allegedly mugging 40 bhoris of gold from a jewellery businessman in Faridpur.
ASI of Bhanga Police Station Golam Dastagir Babul with his source Mehedi Hasan Mridul was held on Wednesday after they committed the crime early on July 10, confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police (Bhanga Circle) of Faridpur Fahima Quader.
According to the case dossier, Pappu Biswas, son of Ajit Biswas of Kamthana village at Lohagara in Narail, has a jewellery shop at Jashore sadar.
On July 9 night, Pappu bought 11 gold bars from one of his friends at Bhanga. On the way, Babul with his cohort intercepted Pappu around 1:00am on July 10.
The policeman took the gold bars from the businessman, labelling those as illegal.
Then, keeping four gold bars, the policeman returned the businessman seven.
The officer asked him to leave the area; otherwise, he intimidated him of terrible consequence.
And then, Mridul snatched his (victim) mobile phone set.
The mugged gold bars were seized from the policeman, said Selim Reza, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Police Station.
