AL withdraws sit-in programme
Politics

The Awami League (AL) decided to withdraw their sit-in programme at entry points of Dhaka as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) did not permit the political parties to hold programmes in the capital on Saturday (July 29).

A notice, signed by the Dhaka south city unit AL office secretary Riaz Uddin Riaz, issued early Saturday announced the decision.
Showing the respect to the law enforcers, AL will refrain from holding a sit-in programme but AL leaders and activists will remain on guard at every ward office,  the notice said.

On Friday, BNP announced that the party will observe sit-in at all strategic entry points to the Dhaka city on Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm to press home their one-point demand.

In response, AL and its two associate bodies – Awami Juba League and Awami Swechchhasebak League – also announced similar programmes in response.

Awami Jubo League and Awami Swechchhasebak League, did not yet announce any changes in their programme.
