BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today (22 August) said Awami League is taking away people's rights and establishing a one-party state.
"But people are protesting. They are waking up. You must have noticed that 22 young men have already fought on the streets and given their lives," the BNP secretary general said while addressing a discussion meeting.
The discussion meeting was organised on the occasion of the eighth death anniversary of Kazi Zafar Ahmed, former prime minister and Jatiya Party chairman.
"All those in favour of democracy are coming together. We all agree that we will not go to the polls under this government," Fakhrul added.
Referring to the movement to restore democracy, Mirza Fakhrul said, "Kazi Zafar Ahmed declared, 'I am in favour of democracy. I want to fight for democracy till the end of my life.' It is very unfortunate that we do not have him by our side during this extreme crisis of the nation."
Jatiya Party Chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider presided over the meeting, while the party's Acting Secretary General Ahsan Habib Lincoln moderated the meeting.
