The Awami League has ensured equal rights for women in every sector, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said at a conference today.
Addressing the women Awami League leaders in the country on Tuesday (17 October), Hasina said, "We have ensured electricity and internet connection in all villages. Women can now earn sitting at home.
"We have introduced allowances for impoverished mothers, for widows and for the elderly. We have increased the maternity leave to six months from the previous three months. We are also giving loans to women entrepreneurs at only 5% interest rates," said the PM following the inauguration of Joyeeta Tower in the capital's Dhanmondi.
She said the Joyeeta Tower has been built in Dhaka to empower women entrepreneurs and such towers will be built in every city of the country.
She had inaugurated the Joyeeta Tower in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, by unveiling its plaque earlier in the day.
Joyeeta Tower has been constructed with state-of-the-art physical infrastructure facilities to ensure women's economic empowerment by involving the country's women entrepreneurs in various business ventures under the Joyeeta brand.
