The ruling Awami League has withdrawn candidature of its
official candidates for 25 constituencies for Jatiya Party and six for other
AL-led alliance partners for Bangladesh’s next general election slated for
January 7.
As a result, the AL, finally has given 26 seats for Jatiya
Party as it did not give nomination for anyone for Narayanganj-5 where Jatiya
Party candidate Selim Osman is contesting.
After sharing seats with alliance partners, the ruling Awami
League would contest for 268 seats in the next national polls.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has sent a letter to the
Election Commission to withdraw of 25 official candidates for JP and AL office
secretary Biplab Barua submitted the letter to the EC Sunday afternoon on behalf
of the party president.
Biplab Barua told reporters that the AL had given 26 seats
for Jatiya Party where the party would contest with its own symbol ‘plough’.
Ealier the party announced to give seven seats to its alliance partners- Workers’ Party of Bangladesh, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasad and Jatiya Party (Manju).
