Accident occurs when other vehicle hits train: Sujan

Mentioning that train never hits any vehicle, Railways Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan on Monday said that accident occurs when other vehicles hit the train on rail track.

If someone causes an accident by hitting the train, is it the responsibility of the railway, the minister questioned.

The Railways Minister made this remarks while inaugurating ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Mobile Rail Museum’ for exhibition at Gopalganj Railway Station.

Sujan said, “Train runs on its rail track and it never runs on other way. Those are other people who build roads over railroad tracks. Then this is their responsibility to provide security to the people.”

The minister said barricades or gates are built on the railways not to provide security to others but to ensure it that no one can make the railways unsafe. These gates are made only for the safety of the railways, he added.

Sujan said those who made road over rail line they should make arrangements for safety.

He further said, “Section 144 is imposed when train runs on rail track. If anyone comes across rail line after violating 144 then he is responsible for the crime not the train.”

“Train is a big vehicle. Many people blame the Railway without understanding.”

The minister said there is no benefit to blame Railway unjustly, adding that, “If the train derails and enters into another’s house, then it will be a train accident. Railways will take responsibility for it. So everyone has to work together to prevent railway accidents.”

Deputy Commissioner Shahida Sultana presided over the programme where director general of Bangladesh Railway DN Majumder, superintendent of police Ayesha Sultana, Gopalganj Awami Leagu general secretary Mahabub Ali Khan, among others, spoke.
