Biman Bangladesh Airlines has cancelled all London-bound flights from Sylhet.

The decision has been taken after the flood water entered the runway. The flight operations will remain suspended until Wednesday (June 22).

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) confirmed the matter on Saturday.

Sylhet's Osmani International Airport's director Hafiz Ahmed said a flight was scheduled to leave for London from Dhaka via Sylhet at 8:00am on Saturday. It was cancelled. Besides, there are two scheduled Dhaka-Sylhet-London flights of Biman for Sunday (June 19) and Wednesday (June 22) which were also cancelled.

The CAAB said the passengers would be informed about the dates of all the cancelled flights later on.

Contacted, Biman Bangladesh Airline's general manager (Public Relations) Tahera Khondker said decision about the cancelled flights will be taken at a meeting on June 21.

Earlier, the Sylhet airport authorities announced suspension of flights as the flood water entered the Osmani International Airport's runway on Friday afternoon.

On Friday, Sylhet's Osmani International Airport's director Hafiz Ahmed also said steps were taken to protect different equipment of the airport.

Sylhet is facing devastating flood as almost 80 per cent of it have been inundated by onrush of hilly water from India.

The unprecedented flood inundated 80 per cent area of Sylhet division and 90 per cent area of Sunamganj, according to Flood Forecast and Warning Center.
