Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two persons along with 112 gold bars which were meant for smuggling out.
The gold bars measuring 16.510kg were recovered in a drive near Amrakhali check post around 10pm Wednesday.
The arrestees are Md Omar Faruk, 27, son of Moon Mia of Mobarakpur at Daudkandi under Cumilla and Md Farhad Sarker, 32, son of Abdul Barek Sarker of Islampur of Matlab Uttar upazila under Chandpur.
Apart from gold bars, two mobile phone sets were recovered from the duo who were coming from Jashore.
Lt Col Sahed Minhaz Siddiki, Commanding Officer of BGB-49 Battalion, said the force conducted the raid following a prior intelligence report.
BGB arrested two persons and recovered the gold bars by intercepting a Benapole-bound pickup, he added.
Estimated value of the seized gold bars is Tk 15,43,68,500.
