Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has slashed the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
A 12kg LPG cylinder will be selling now for Tk 1,219 including value-added tax, which has been sold at Tk 1,254. So, the price of 12kg LPG cylinder has gone down by Tk 35.
Abdul Jalil, chairman of the BERC, announced the new prices of LPG on Tuesday afternoon joining a virtual platform.
During the announcement of new price, BERC members Makbul-e-Elahi Chowdhury, ABM Faruque, Bazlur Rahman and Md Qamruzzaman were present.
The new LPG price would be effective from 6:00pm on Tuesday, said the BERC chairman.
The BERC fixed the LPG price first on April 12 last. Since then it has been coordinating the prices once in a month.
The BERC said the LPG price at the government level will remain unchanged. The price of each kilogram of LPG has been fixed at Tk 101.62 at the consumer level under private sector. Based on this rate, the prices of different sizes of LPG cylinder will be fixed.
Besides, the price of LPG (auto gas) used in vehicles has been fixed at Tk 56.85 per litre which was Tk 58.46 earlier.
It is learnt that LPG's main ingredients propen and buten are imported from different countries. Saudi Arabian company Aramco releases the prices of these two ingredients of LPG every month which is known as Saudi cargo prices or CP. The BERC coordinated the LPG price in the country based on the Aramco CP prices.
