Detectives have recovered some Tk 9 crore, out of the Dhaka Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL)'s Tk 11.25 crore which was mugged from a security company's vehicle at Diabari area under Turag Police Station on Thursday morning.

They said that they had recovered three, out of four trunks full of cash, which were mugged by the culprits.

The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said seven people including two directors of Money Plant Security Company Ltd and driver of the vehicle were detained for questioning.

Initially, the DB termed the incident as 'a pre-planned,' saying that the muggers hatched plan much earlier to mug the cash.

DB chief Mohammad Harun-ar-Rashid stated it to journalists at Uttara's La Meridien Hotel on Thursday (March 9) evening.

He said the muggers waylaid the vehicle when it was heading toward Savar EPZ on Thursday morning. There were six persons on board the vehicle carrying the cash. The muggers beat the six persons and fled with four trunks full of cash by another vehicle. There were Tk 11.20 crore in four trunks.

Hearing about it, the DB team instantly rushed to the spot. Then the detectives launched manhunt at different places in the capital to nab the muggers and recovered the money. At one stage, seven persons were caught when they were fleeing with three trunks from Uttara area.

The incident of snatching the money was 'pre-planned,' said the DB chief Harun-ar-Rashid. "The muggers had long been following transporting the cash by Money Plant Link Security Company Ltd. Though sounds unbelievable, there were no arms used by the muggers.

The DB chief said, "We have received the names of several persons. Seven persons including two directors of Money Plant Link Security Ltd have been arrested. Details will be known after questioning them."

Earlier on Thursday morning, a group of muggers mugged four iron trunks containing Tk 11.25 crore in cash from a private security company's vehicle at Turag area when it was heading towards Savar EPZ area to re-fill ATM booths there.

Police said the incident happened at about 7:30am at an area adjacent to No. 11 Bridge at Sector 16 in Uttara.

The DBBL authorities also filed a mugging case against unidentified muggers with Turag Police Station in connection with the incident.
