Twenty-four lampposts on Padma Bridge have been lighted up on trial basis as the date of inauguration of the mighty project is approaching fast.
The lampposts on No. 12 span of the Padma Bridge were lighted at 5:30pm on Saturday (June 4), said Padma Bridge executive engineer Dewan Md Abdul Kader. "It is the first time that some lampposts on the Padma Bridge have been lighted up," he said.
The inauguration of the Padma Bridge will be held at Kanthalbari under Shibchar upazila in Madaripur district as over 10 lakh people are expected to join it, according to sources.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the bridge on June 25.
There are 415 lampposts on the spans of the 6.15km long bridge. Of these, 328 lampposts have been set up on the main bridge, 46 on the viaducts on the Jazira side and 41 on the viaducts on the Mawa side.
On the approach road at the Mawa end, 103 lampposts have been set up, while 97 lampposts have been set up at the Jazira end.
The lampposts in the Padma Bridge project have come from China.
LED bulbs of 175-watt each have been installed on the lampposts. The height of each lamppost is 11.2 meter and the distance between one lamp post to another is 37.5 meter. The weight of each lamppost is 275kg.
Even if there is a storm at a speed of 200 kilometres per hour, there will be no damage to these lampposts, Saddam Hossain, assistant engineer (Electrical) of Padma Bridge, told The Daily Observer Online.
