The cultivation of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) nears completion in the district.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said about 94 percent targeted lands has so far been brought under its cultivation and the rest will come under the process within a week.
They said a total of 50,440 hectares of land has by now come under cultivation against the target of 53,200 hectares of land in the district.
T-Aman has been cultivated on 9,850 hectares of land against the target of 11,120 hectares in Chapainawabganj sadar, 550 hectares against the target of 590 hectares in Shibganj, 22,235 hectares against the target of 23,465 hectares in Nachole, 13,005 hectares against the target of 13,525 hectares in Gomostapur and 4,800 hectares against the target of 4,500 hectares in Bholahat upazilas.
The rice production target has been fixed at 1,57,416 tonnes, of which, 33,378 tonnes in sadar, 1,788 in Shibganj, 37,893 in Gomostapur, 70,909 in Nachole and 13,448 in Bholahat upazilas, the sources further said.
Deputy Director (DD) of DAE, Chapainawabganj Dr. Palash Sarker said there is sufficient supply of fertilizer in the district.
Although the farmers delayed to start cultivation due to late rainfall, they are now going to complete their cultivation thanks to sufficient rain water and irrigation facilities, he added.
He further expressed his optimism that the production could cross the target in the district this year.
