Sri Lankan win toss, opt to bat against Bangladesh in 1st test

Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne won the toss and elected to bat first against Bangladesh in the two-match Test series opener at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday.

The Tigers have failed to clinch a single victory at their own den since their last win against Zimbabwe in 2020.

They hosted West Indies and Pakistan for two two-match Test series in recent years and lost all the four Tests played at home during the last 26 months.
Their track record at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram isn’t helping them as well to boost up their confidence as they lost their previous three Test matches at the venue respectively against Afghanistan, West Indies and Pakistan.

If the recent track record is taken into consideration, Bangladesh faced the consequences of failing to hold on to its nerves for full five days.

They played side by side against Pakistan and South Africa in some of their recent Test matches for the most part of the matches only to collapse during their last few sessions of the game.
