Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday unveiled the cover of two books in marking Armed Forces Day 2022.
The books “Ronangoner Diary” and “Shaheed Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal: Deshprem o Tarunyer Dipto Shikha” were unveiled at Dhaka Cantonment, said a press release issued by Inter Service Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) on Tuesday.
Major General Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's security adviser, Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan and Lieutenant General Waker-uz-Zaman, principal staff officer, Armed Forces Division, among others was present at the program.
The Armed Forces Day 2022 was celebrated on Monday amid festivity and enthusiasm, marking the founding anniversary of the forces comprising army, navy and air force.
Ronangoner Diary
This book contains stories of important training that brave freedom fighter Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal, the second son of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, received during the 1971 Liberation War.
Besides, the book includes Sheikh Jamal's reflection on his own life when he left for commission at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Britain.
The 136-page book is based on his handwritten diary. It contains four photographs as well.
The editor and publisher of the book is Major General Md Majibur Rahman, OSP, PPMS, NDC, PSC, MPhil.
Major General Rahman was awarded the Army Medal, the highest peacetime award in 2021 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Shaheed Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal: Deshprem o Tarunyer Dipto Shikha
This book's preface was written by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself about her late younger brother, Sheikh Jamal.
The book is published in two languages.
Shaheed lieutenant Sheikh Jamal: The epitome of patriotism and youth was edited by Dhaka University's former vice chancellor Abu Ahsan Mohammad Shamsul Arefin Siddique and the publisher of the book is Yasin Kabir Joy.
Shahriar Khan Borno designed the cover.
Sheikh Jamal received combat training in India during the Liberation War and took part in the war.
After training at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Britain, he joined Bangladesh Army as a second lieutenant in the East Bengal Regiment.
His career, however, was short-lived. Sheikh Jamal and his wife Rosy were killed with other members of his family during the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
