BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday (5 September) said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has always had something to offer India but she returns empty-handed every time.
"I do not wish to comment on the premier's current visit to India because our experience is so bitter that it's disappointing," he said at a meeting organised on the occasion of the 13th death anniversary of former Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity Monday.
The BNP spokesperson added that he will reserve his comments till the prime minister returns to Bangladesh.
Regarding the prime minister's India visit, Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain told The Business Standard, "The experience of these visits is disappointing every time."
"I don't expect much to result from the current visit," he said adding that even this time, the premier will have much to offer to India.
"If there is any agreement between Bangladesh and India regarding safety, rail, and border etc., only then BNP will make an official response," Khandaker noted.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached New Delhi, India on a four-day state visit at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi as cooperation on trade, energy, water sharing of common rivers and Rohingya issues are expected to be top agendas during her visit.
