People have started returning to the capital as offices, courts and businesses resumed activities on Tuesday after the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.

They were flocking to launch ghats and train and bus stations to catch vehicles as their Eid vacation ended on Monday.

On the third day of the Eid festival, everything was in full swing, but city streets saw no additional pressure of public transport.

As a result, many holidaymakers going to their destinations have fallen into misery.

The number of vehicles increased on several city streets, especially in Mogbazar, Hatirjheel, and Malibagh, but there was no report of nagging traffic jams.

The presence of people in the capital and offices was thin despite the reopening of their offices after the holiday of Eid-ul-Azha which was celebrated in the country on Sunday.

While visiting various bus stoppages in the capital in the morning, this correspondent found office-goers gathering there.

There was a transport crisis in the capital as many passengers were waiting for buses.

Someone was trying to get in a bus by force. Some are taking an alternative route to reach their destinations even after standing for a long time.

However, there was no traffic jam and traffic was normal in the capital.

Sultana Moni, an official of a private company from Jhalakati, said, “After enjoying the Eid vacation, I have returned to Dhaka. There were no hassles on the way back to the capital.”

“I can’t get into any buses which were full of passengers,” said Shahnewaz Khan who was waiting in Asadgate area for half an hour to go to Gulshan.

A large number of people returned to the capital on Monday night and Tuesday morning to attend office on Tuesday.

The trains coming to Dhaka were not overcrowded. Every launch at Sadarghat was normal. The situation was similar at the bus stations.

Rafiqul Islam, an official of Sadarghat river security and traffic division (BIWTA), said a total of 70 launches returned to Dhaka launch terminal till 8:00am. No untoward situation was reported yet.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, “Some 4,50,000 mobile SIM users returned to Dhaka on Tuesday.”

A large number of residents of the capital go home every year during Eid holidays. Many go abroad and many travel to various tourist spots.
