Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque warned that none will be allowed to do business with health of the public in general.

"Already, around 2,000 hospitals and clinics have been shut down and drives against all the illegal and unauthorized hospitals and clinics will be continued throughout the country," he told journalists after visiting Sadar Hospital and Dental College Hospital here.

The minister said they will take immediate action against the hospitals and clinics that will be found functional without license and violating the existing rules and regulations.

He mentioned that the unauthorized and illegal hospitals and clinics pose a serious threat to public health as they do business without proper manpower and instruments.

"We are determined to restore discipline through removing irregularities and anomalies in this sector for the welfare of the public," he ascertained.

The minister said the sadar hospital will be resumed for expanding healthcare facilities for the general public. Side by side with this, activities of the dental unit will remain.

Director General of the Directorate of Health Serives Prof Abul Bashar Muhammad Khurshid Alam, Divisional Director of Health Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Principal of Rajshahii Medical College Prof Naoshad Ali and Director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) Brig General Shamim Yazdani accompanied the minister during his visit.

Earlier, on Wednesday night, the minister inspected the RMCH asking its authorities to overcome the manpower crises in outsourcing and recruitment.

He said the tertiary hospital remained overcrowded always so a step has been taken to its upward extension.
