Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has made it clear that no message or ultimatum can move the government from the constitution.

"We will take local and foreign people's advise, but the election will be held as per the constitution. Awami League will do everything necessary for holding a fair and impartial election. Through fair elections, AL will show the whole world that Bangladesh is the ideal of democracy."

He said this on Tuesday (October 17) in a programme at the University Laboratory School and College in the capital ahead of Sheikh Russell's birthday.

Criticising BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's statement, Quader said, "What last message does Fakhrul want to give Awami League? To step down from power or to leave the world? There is no precedent of any movement of Mirza Fakhrul for Khaleda Zia. Pockets are hot in the heat of money."

Regarding the treatment of Khaleda Zia abroad, Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said that the Prime Minister does not have the authority to release the convicted accused. He gave Khaleda Zia the opportunity to receive treatment at home as an executive power."
