There is no foreign pressure over the caretaker government, Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
“No foreign friendly countries including European Union, the United States or the United Kingdom have put any pressure on the caretaker government issue. They also did not want to interfere in the internal affairs of Bangladesh,” the AL general secretary told journalists following a board meeting of Bangladesh Bridge Authority at Setu Bhaban in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
Quader said that BNP wants a caretaker government that will guarantee victory in the election. They want that caretaker government which did partiality in 2001 and 2006 elections, he added.
He said, “Awami League does not want a biased caretaker government that has lost its characteristics. Today’s Election Commission is independent and impartial. Where is the problem of BNP to take part in election under this commission?”
He further said, “This Election Commission is eligible enough to conduct election. They have made every effort to hold fair elections.”
