Meetings with lateral parties prove BNP’s political crisis: Hasan
National

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP has proved that they are in deep political crisis through meetings with different so-called and lateral political parties.

“The whole world is now in crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war. Advices have been given to use electricity and energy cost-effectively even in the United States of America. Load-shedding has taken place in many European countries and they are advising to use electricity economically,” he said.

The minister told reporters replying to a query over a comment by a BNP leader at Bangladesh Films Development Corporation (BFDC) in the capital.

Hasan said the inflation is the highest in the USA in the last 40 years and it is 8.6 percent while it (inflation) is 9.1 percent in the United Kingdom, 73.5 percent in Turkey, 39.1 percent in Sri Lanka, 13.8 percent in Pakistan and over seven percent in India in the 40 years. The whole world is now in crisis and Bangladesh is not an isolated island from the world, he added.

He said it is normal that Bangladesh will also go through some crisis if the whole world is in crisis. But the situation of Bangladesh is much better than many other countries due to Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s different pragmatic and time-befitting steps, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

For this, he said, the name of Bangladesh is not in the vulnerable countries in the studies of economists published in different international media.

He said BNP is in a deep political crisis. In fact, BNP is afraid of elections as they got only five seats in 2018 polls despite making alliance with rightists, leftists, extreme rightists and extreme leftists, he added.

The minister said this time BNP is holding meetings with some  political parties and the party has proved that they are in deep political crisis through these meetings.

Later, Hasan joined a memorial meeting on late eminent musician Alam Khan and actress Sharmily Ahmed.

Bangladesh Film Directors Association (BFDA) and Chalachithra Shilpi Samity organised the meeting.

The minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

He also advised the FDC to preserve the memories of eminent artists.

Shilpi Samity president Ilias Kanchan, eminent actor Alamgir, eminent musician Gazi Mazharul Anowar, BFDC managing director Nuzhat Yeasmin and late Sharmily’s younger sister Wahida Mallik Jali, among others, addressed the meeting while BFDA president Sohanur Rahman Sohan conducted it.
