The government gives some Tk 5,200 crore subsidy annually to sell essentials through the TCB (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh) at fare prices among low income group of people.

Commerce Ministry's Senior Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh stated it while inaugurating the TCB's goods selling programme among one crore family card holders belonging to low-income group of families at South Begunbari in the capital on Sunday (Sept 11) morning.

He said the ministry concerned is contemplating selling of TCB goods twice a month in future taking all aspects and TCB's capability into consideration.

Replying to a query of a reporter, Tapan Kanti Ghosh said some 5 crore of people are being benefited through the TCB. Goods would be sold every month.

Under the Tk 405 package, each family card holder is receiving two litres of edible oil, two kilograms of red lentil, and one kg of sugar.

Besides, onion will be sold in the capital once it will arrive from abroad.

It was told at the function that the TCB's month-long selling programme would continue through some 300 dealers in Dhaka and some 3,000 dealers across the country.
