State Minister for Labor and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian has said each tea worker, in three installments, will receive arrear wage of Taka 11,000.
The state minister disclosed the decision after a meeting with representatives of the Bangladesh Tea Association and the Bangladesh Tea Workers' Union at the conference room of Shram Bhaban in the city's Bijoynagar area yesterday, an official release said on Thursday.
In continuation of the decision, a circular, signed by Director General of the Department of Labour Khaled Mamun Chowdhury, was also issued last night, the release added.
The authorities concerned will pay this amount in three installments. According to the decision, the authorities must pay the first installment within March 7.
Payment of the remaining two installments would be given later.
On August 27 last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina increased the daily wages of tea workers from Tk 120 to Tk 170 along with raising other benefits.
In line with the instructions of the Prime Minister, the workers' other benefits, including plucking bonus (benefit for plucking additional tea leaves), festival bonus, earned leave and sick leave allowances, provident fund, ration card and retirement facilities have been increased proportionately.
